Untitled (Volume) became the basis of my thesis project, In/Between/Outside: Three Volumes. Constructed of nylon yardage, wire cables, aluminum rods, and two concrete blocks, the first iteration of this installation defines a rectangular volume of negative space, framed between the lightness of woven mesh, the heaviness of concrete blocks, and the existing walls of the room. A boundary of nylon, concrete, and cable wires defines a negative volume that, despite being ‘empty,’ acts as a barrier that can only be penetrated by the eyes.
